Within the last few years, more people (especially celebrities) are opening up about their experiences with cosmetic-enhancing treatments. Whether it's full-on plastic surgery, a mild "tweakment," or a Laser Treatment, the days of being secretive about it seem to be over. People are happy to talk about everything from nose jobs to filler and Botox, but still, it can be difficult to figure out where to start.

While fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging Skin are a natural part of the aging process, if you've been looking for a non-invasive treatment to target them, you might want to read up on a buzzy new skin treatment called Fotona 4D. The innovative in-office treatment, which involves four different lasers, has gone viral on social media and is being touted as a "facelift alternative."

Ahead, Liana Sahakyan, RN, MSN, and co-founder of Lauréate Aesthetics answers everything you need to know about Fotona 4D, including what it is, how much it typically costs, and what the benefits and potential side effects of the treatment are.

Fotona 4D is a non-invasive laser treatment that combines four different wavelengths to address various skin concerns, in turn, encouraging the natural healing process of the skin. "It targets both the exterior facial skin and the underlying structures to stimulate collagen production and promote overall skin rejuvenation," Sahakyan tells POPSUGAR.

The first step of the treatment is the "SmoothLiftin" laser. "It utilizes a non-ablative laser to heat the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production," Sahakyan says. This laser addresses skin elasticity and works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The second step is the "FRAC3" laser, which targets pigmentation concerns like age spots and sun spots. "The laser is absorbed by the pigmented cells, causing them to break down and fade over time," Sahakyan says. "This mode is ideal for improving overall skin tone and reducing hyperpigmentation."

The third laser used is "PIANO" to target deeper layers of the skin. "The purpose of this mode is to stimulate collagen remodeling and promote tightening. It targets sagging skin and works to improve skin texture and firmness."

The last laser used is "SupErficial." This treatment addresses the skin's surface layers. "It works to exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells and stimulating the production of new skin cells," Sahakyan says. The goal of this laser is to reduce pore size and give skin an overall smoother appearance.

What Are the Benefits of Fotona 4D?

The benefits of this laser treatment include improved texture, enhanced skin tone, increased elasticity, and an overall smoother appearance. "It provides a non-surgical alternative to facelifts and delivers gradual, natural-looking results without the need for downtime," Sahakyan says.

While patients may experience some redness or swelling immediately after the procedure, it usually subsides within a day or two, and patients can resume regular activities shortly after the treatment is completed.

Who Is a Candidate For Fotona 4D?

Individuals who are seeking to improve skin laxity and wrinkles, as well as overall skin rejuvenation, are good candidates for the treatment. However, Sahakyan says that "individuals with certain skin conditions, active infections, or a history of keloid scarring may not be suitable candidates." As always, it's best to consult with a provider to find out whether or not this treatment is right for you.

Is the Fotona 4D Treatment Painful?

Like most laser treatments, any pain you'd experience can be lessened with numbing creams, and Sahakyan says this laser treatment is generally well-tolerated. "Most patients experience minimal discomfort, and the laser energy is typically described as a warming or tingling sensation during the procedure."

Fotona 4D Risks and Side Effects

The potential side effects of the Fotona 4D treatment are minimal, but may include mild redness, swelling, or temporary sensitivity of the treated area. "In rare cases, there may be temporary pigment changes or mild blistering," she says. "These side effects are usually short-lived and resolve on their own.

Fotona 4D Facelift Costs

While the initial cost of the Fotona 4D treatment is typically around $700, pricing will vary depending on the provider and your location. You may need to book follow-up appointments depending on the results you're looking to achieve. Sahakyan suggests consulting with a qualified practitioner to get an accurate cost estimate based on your individual needs.
