Will the USWNT Win Their 3rd Consecutive World Cup? We Asked an Astrologer

Whether you are a fan of astrology memes or have had a full-blown birth-chart reading, it's likely you're at least a little curious about what the planets can tell you about your personality and maybe even the future.

As an astrologer, I can look at a Birth Chart and use various calculations - like where the planets are at the moment, and comparing the same planets to where they were when you were born - to get a read on particular strengths and challenges that are currently and soon to be in your path. The same can be done to get a sense of what's coming up for a larger entity, like, say, the United States women's national soccer team (USWNT).

To predict how well the USWNT will do at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, I looked at the team's birth chart, which was set for their first ever match, Aug. 18, 1985, at the Mundialito tournament in Italy. I also checked out the birth charts of the team's key figures, like veteran forward Megan Rapinoe and head coach Vlatko Andonovski, as well as the general astrology of the World Cup itself.

By doing a deep dive into these astrological details, it's possible to get a sense of the outcome of the highly anticipated event. Given that the USWNT is currently ranked No. 1 in the world by FIFA, here's what you might be able to expect these next few weeks, according to astrology.

What the USWNT's Birth Chart Reveals About the Team

Just as we astrologers use the signing of the Declaration of Independence for the birth chart of the US, we can look to the USWNT's first ever match for its chart. That occurred on Aug. 18, 1985, in Jesolo, Italy, when the sun was in dynamic, charismatic, fixed fire sign Leo.

In turn, this was the birth of a team that was destined to be proud, comfortable in the spotlight, and a magnet for celebrity star power (they got both Taylor Swift and President Joe Biden for their recent roster announcement video) - all of which is Leo's forte. It's also no wonder that it's a team full of outspoken superstars who've become household names, like Alex Morgan and Rapinoe. And given that the moon was in detail-oriented, down-to-earth, mutable earth sign Virgo, it makes sense that the team has made past headlines for being "pragmatic" (like going with a primarily defensive strategy to make it to the World Cup semifinals back in 2019).

The sun was also forming a wide conjunction (meaning hanging out around the same spot in the sky) to Mars, the planet of competition, action, and energy, which speaks to the team being collectively assertive, independent-minded, capable of matching their ambitions to their actions, and driven to achieve great things again and again - like, say, consecutive World Cup wins.

How the USWNT Might Perform in the World Cup 2023, According to Astrology

By poring over what the planets have to say, it absolutely looks like the astrology of the 2023 Women's World Cup will be on the USWNT's side, and they'll take home a historic third consecutive World Cup title. Here's why.

In their first match, the team will practice what they preach - and show that they are on the path to growth.

With Mercury, the planet of communication, transiting between the team's natal Mars and sun, this is obviously a super-public and vocal moment for the USWNT. Head coach Andonovski has said he won't be happy with "anything short of a third straight win," according to ESPN. "There's only one thing in mind. Our goal is to win the World Cup. There's no question about it. And I don't think that anyone on our team thinks anything different." Thanks to this meetup between Mercury, moving through the sky in real time, and the team's natal sun and Mars, the team is likely to achieve what Andonovski is saying.

Over the years, the friendships between key players have been spotlit. For example, Katie Nolan, ESPN and podcast host, took Morgan, Kelley O'Hara, and Rapinoe on a ride after practice, and the clip really highlights the sisterhood that the players share. This is something they'll be reflecting on and wanting to actively lean on to win, as Venus, the planet of harmony and relationships, will go retrograde on the day of the first game. It'll backtrack over the team's sun and Mars, reminding them that their strength and ability to win the World Cup are fueled by their bonds, which they're always striving to nurture, according to forward Trinity Rodman, who recently told the LA Times, "Every game is a test, and we're building that chemistry every time on the field together."

Jupiter, the planet of luck and abundance, will also be right on the team's north node (which symbolizes their karmic mission). This is a super-optimistic transit that marks a moment of higher learning. It's possible that in this first match, the team will feel like they're very much on their karmic path, aligned with their mission, and capable of learning something new - such as plays to expect from other teams or how they best work together - that could heighten their performance as they progress through the World Cup. In short, this moment could make them feel even more certain that fortune is on their side and that optimism can only serve to boost their confidence.

The Leo new moon will likely bring a high-stakes, fiery moment near the end of the tournament.

Occurring in Sydney at 7:38 p.m. local time on Aug. 16, the new moon in Leo falls within two degrees of where the sun was when the team was "born" (25 degrees Leo). This indicates a symbiosis between how the team sees themselves and the emotional tone of the moment. With all that Leo energy, they'll be confident, centered, and driven to show up in full force - and it comes just four days ahead of the final match on Aug. 20.

With this moon falling almost directly on Sophia Smith's sun in Leo, this could be a breakout moment for the rising star forward. The 22-year-old could have a major scoring opportunity, setting the stage for her to grab the Golden Boot (top goalscorer) for the 2023 World Cup.

At the same time, Mars, the planet of action, energy, and competition, will be conjunct (meaning in the same exact spot) as the team's moon at 22 degrees Virgo. The team will be especially fired up and prepared to defend their position as reigning champions. They may just need to watch out for being too hotheaded in this moment, which could spur headbutting between players or with a ref who makes a call they don't agree with.

It also bears noting that Jupiter will be inching up on veteran forward Rapinoe's north node. Rapinoe has announced she's retiring and this will be her last World Cup, and having lucky Jupiter on her karmic north node may indicate she's going to go out shining like the superstar she was born to be. Judging from recent interviews, Rapinoe is also committed to setting a supportive tone for her younger teammates - she joked that she's the team's "fun grandma." Jupiter is the planet of mentorship and higher education, so it makes perfect sense that this is her current headspace and what she'll be applauded - and remembered - for.

In the World Cup final, fireworks will be flying for the USWNT.

On the day of FIFA's final match, scheduled for Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. in Sydney, Mercury will be moving toward a conjunction to the USWNT's moon in Virgo, which says their thoughts and emotions will be in sync. This mirrors what we already know about the team from their birth chart - they're able to match their practical actions to their ambitions. In other words, if their aim is to get two or more goals in the first half to set a self-assured tone for the rest of the match, they'll be able to communicate well with one another in order to make that a reality. Interestingly, Mercury will also be conjunct with head coach Andonovski's sun, which will bolster his confidence in his coaching.

Relationship-oriented Venus will be nearly conjunct go-getter Mars, bolstering the team's harmony and passion for their mission. (Think more of that lovely bonding energy they'll be reminded of during the first match.) And Jupiter, the planet of abundance, will be squaring off against Mars, the planet of competition, indicating that the team is going to go all in - maybe even pulling out extravagant moves, like big roster changes or major plays that mirror the team's intent to go big or go home - to remain on top.

Bottom line: given how fortunate the astrology of the World Cup looks for the USWNT, it almost feels like the planetary stage has been set for them to take their third consecutive title. Betting gurus agree: the latest odds from Caesars Sportsbook list the USWNT as +225 favorites. Only time will tell what headlines will read come late August, but the defending champions can rest assured that the stars are on their side.
