How to Know Whether You're "Lalala" or "Okokok," Based on Your Beauty Preferences

Are u a Lalala girl or Okokok girl? #makeup

TikTok is home to some pretty weird sh*t when it comes to Beauty. We all know some of the most viral (and dangerous): hemorrhoid cream to fight undereye bags, calamine lotion instead of makeup primer, the list goes on and on. But the app's latest obsession is in a league of its own: figuring out whether, at your core, you're a "lalala" or "okokok" person. If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, let me explain.

It all started when a TikTok video posted by user @nevon1nonly went viral. The video had the Tyler, the Creator song "See You Again" playing in the background and showed an image of a cartoon person wearing sunglasses mouthing "OK, OK, OK" and a person dancing while singing "la, la, la," with the accompanying text overlay, "there's two types of people listening to 'see you again.'"

The implication is that there are two types of people in the world: laid-back, chill, logical people, otherwise known as okokok people, and always energetic, sometimes aloof, charming people, otherwise known as lalala people. Still trying to understand? Let's try a pop culture reference: Blair from "Gossip Girl" is okokok, while Serena is lalala. Is it becoming clearer?

TikTok users began identifying themselves as one or the other in the comments of the aforementioned viral video, and thus, a trend was born. And because we find no greater joy than relating anything and everything back to beauty, behold the next iteration of this trend: figuring out whether you are an okokok person or a lalala person, all based on your beauty preferences.

Keep reading to find out whether you're lalala, okokok, or maybe even a healthy mix of both - based on your beauty routine.

A lalala person is described as someone who doesn't take life too seriously, has their head in the clouds, and is aloof and dreamy. Think Sarah Cameron from "Outer Banks," Rachel Green from "Friends," and Drew Barrymore in "Never Been Kissed." (I'm aging myself with that last reference, I know.)

  • You buy beauty products just for the fun, bright packaging and the display factor.
  • Your signature scent is something floral that's guaranteed to perk you up.
  • You don't leave the house without a heavy layer of pink blush on the apples of your cheeks.
  • Your last hair-accessory purchase was a pack of colorful butterfly clips, and it wasn't for attendance at a music festival.
  • You're fine doing your makeup in the car on the way to an event (which you often do, because you're always running late), and if you happen to smudge your mascara, you make it part of your look.
  • You can find anything in your purse, from an unopened eyeshadow palette to a lip gloss from sixth grade.
  • You believe dry shampoo deserves its own aisle at Sephora because you're too busy frolicking to wash your hair every day.
  • Your beauty routine changes weekly, because there are just too many fun products out there you want to try.
  • You buy two of every beauty product, even when you don't have room for them.
  • A chipped manicure is one of your defining beauty traits - and you make it look good, too.

An okokok person is described as someone who overthinks and is assertive, logical, sensible, and rational. Think Monica Geller from "Friends," Shiv Roy from "Succession," and Leighton from "The Sex Lives of College Girls."

  • Your signature scent is something straight out of a best leather fragrances roundup: musky, woody, and smoky.
  • You wouldn't be caught dead wearing a glittery eyeshadow unless it was for a costume, and even then, chances are slim.
  • You own a countless number of claw clips, but they're all in neutral colors.
  • You don't leave the house without your favorite lip balm and an extra hair tie on your wrist.
  • If you have an event to go to, you'll start getting ready three hours ahead of time.
  • You have a strict hair-washing schedule that you stick to no matter what - even on vacation.
  • Your beauty routine is stripped down to the basics: cleanser, vitamin C serum, moisturizer, and SPF.
  • If you're doing "full glam," your look will include a wing so sharp, it could cut diamonds.
  • Your beauty products are organized by type and color, and you always use those little clear plastic storage bins.
  • You have a standing biweekly nail appointment (whether it's at a salon or in your living room).
