Let's Revisit How Grogu and the Mandalorian Reunite in "The Book of Boba Fett"

Season three of "The Mandalorian," coming to Disney+ on March 1, sees the continued adventures of the Mandalorian and baby Yoda - aka Din Djarin and Grogu. Pedro Pascal stars as the titular bounty hunter-turned-hero, whose quest to return Grogu to his people turns into a strong bond between the pair. At the end of "The Mandalorian" season two - which ended all the way back in 2020, Din and Grogu parted ways seemingly for good. During the season, Grogu is kidnapped by forces controlled by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). Din teams up with Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Fennec Shand (Ming Na), and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Nite Owls to rescue Grogu and capture Gideon, which they do with the unexpected help of Jedi master Luke Skywalker (a de-aged Mark Hamill). After, Luke offers to take Grogu so he can learn to be a Jedi. Bringing Grogu to the Jedi was technically Mando's goal this whole time, so he takes off his mask and says goodbye to Baby Yoda forever.

But when season three of the show premieres, the Mando and Grogu are back together for good. How did that happen? It all comes down to events shown in 2021's "The Book of Boba Fett." If you missed those episodes or need a refresher, here's what happened to bring Mando and Grogu back togethr.

How Did the Mandalorian and Grogu Reunite?

Now alone, Din heads to the Mandalorian Armorer (Emily Swallow) with the beskar he recovered during season two and to ask questions about the darksaber. Mando has the Armorer turn the beskar into a gift for Grogu, a little chainmail shirt that can protect him while still being lightweight enough for his tiny body. After, Mando heads to where Luke is training Grogu to bring him the present.

Yet, when he arrives, Din is stopped by Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson). She tells Mando that his desire to see Grogu and make sure he always remembers him is selfish and not what Grogu needs during training. He's not a Mandalorian foundling anymore: He's a padawan. She takes the present from him and sends him on his way.

Luke admits to Ahsoka that he's not sure if Grogu is committed enough to wanting to be a Jedi. He is coming a long way with his force abilities, however. Ahsoka advises him to give Grogu the choice to stay or go. So Luke presents Grogu with two objects: the tiny chainmail armor Din left for him, and Master Yoda's lightsaber.

Grogu chooses to return to Din and their Mandalorian life ping-ponging through the galaxy. Luke sends him to Tatooine, where he meets up with Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris). She in turn brings him to where Din, Boba Fett and co. are fighting various Tatooine war lords (this is the non-Mando and Grogu plot of the show). After the battle is won, Fett's rancor is on the loose in the town, and Grogu uses his force abilities to put it to sleep. Pascal has said that Grogu's new powers will play a major role in "The Mandalorian" season three.

What Episodes of "The Book of Boba Fett" Are the Mandalorian and Grogu in?

The Mandalorian and Grogu are in three episodes of "The Book of Boba Fett." Din first enters the series in episode five, titled "Chapter 5" on Disney+. Din spends the entire episode alone, emphasizing his newfound loneliness without his tiny green charge by his side. Din and Grogu both appear in episodes six and seven of the series, titled "Chapter 6" and "Chapter 7." In episode six, Grogu trains with Luke. In episode seven, he reaches Mando and Boba Fett on Tatooine, helps save them, and embarks on new adventures with Din.
