Singapore Airlines Flight SQ833 Ordeal: Eight-Hour Tarmac Delay and Cancellation in Shanghai

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight that was supposed to leave Shanghai, China, on Wednesday, September 6, in the afternoon was delayed for many hours on the tarmac due to technical issues, and the flight was ultimately canceled.

On Wednesday, 4.45 p.m., Flight SQ833 was scheduled to take off, but after midnight, the passenger reported, everyone was still on board. The traveller shared her story on Facebook.

For eight hours, we were stranded in a cabin at Pu Dong Airport. We tried to leave the plane, but the captain wouldn’t let us. Air circulation is inadequate and there is no air conditioning. The passenger wrote, “They endanger everyone’s lives.

“Engineers were brought on-site to try to resolve the issue,” the spokesman added. “The aircraft returned to the bay. The ground power had to be turned off while the tests were being conducted for concerns of safety. The spokesman stated that meals and refreshments were provided to passengers on board, as well as ground workers who were on hand to help passengers.

The airline issued apologies for the problems the passengers experienced. “Hotel accommodations were arranged,” the official stated. “Customers disembarked the aircraft at 12.30 am.” All impacted passengers were rebooked on alternative flights on Thursday and have subsequently departed Shanghai.
