TCCDM Pulls One Out..."The Adventures Of Robert Savage, Volume 1" - Robert Savage (1971)

"The Adventures Of Robert Savage, Volume 1" - Robert Savage (1971)

Robert Savage was made up of a power trio that rode into town to make some tasty hard acid rock.  And I don't know where they were hiding, but for 1971, this bad boy is a banger's treat.  Fresh ideas fill the speakers.  Each song stands on its own legs.  Nothing sounds repetitive or tired.  And for an unknown commodity, while maybe a little unpolished, "The Adventures Of Robert Savage" is a square that sounds like a dark horse, for sure.  Obviously, not as recognizable as peers of the era, but this is still a pretty strong hoss.  And it's definitely one I'll reach for when I need some crankage chewing on the ears.

"The Adventures of Robert Savage, Volume 1" is filled with nine tracks of various ideas both entertaining and different, while never straying away from the acid pool.  Robert Savage paints blistering guitar burns and runs in just the right measures allowing for the funky bass and drums to have their space.  The vocals keep it all real and make for a really fun spin.  And though my hyperbole is more than a little heavy-handed, "The Adventures of Robert Savage" is a square that has more to like, than not.  (Robert Savage is a pseudonym for Bobby Arlin who was also the guitarist in the psych bands...The Hook and The Leaves.)

Favorites include:
"Amy (The Insane)"
"Save Us From The Cyclops"
"Road Apples"
"Milk Run"

My copy of "The Adventures Of Robert Savage, Volume 1"...(there was never a Volume 2)...is in an original gatefold unipak with a promo sticker on the front.  The vinyl comes in a slick deluxe white company sleeve.  The cover artwork of a dragon and dragonslayer is very cool and I told myself I'd probably never come across another copy again, so I snagged it.  I found this "blind-buy" at a garage sale for $18.  I may have paid a little less, I can't remember.  I don't think this album is especially rare, but it can go for some paper on Discogs.  If you see a nice copy for under $20, I wouldn't hesitate.  You're getting a steal.
