"The Savage Resurrection" - The Savage Resurrection (1968 - Rei 2015)

The Savage Resurrection's eponymous debut is a fuzzed-out psych square that comes at the listener with a duel guitar strike that compliments rather than competes.  Each keeps the head on notice without overstaying their welcome.  A little bit of Eastern influence can be heard in places as well.   All but one of the members were just teenagers when they went into the studio, so that might also attest for the overall garagey backbone attitude the album brings.

Along with this San Francisco band having a great name, the album cover is equally fire.  One I'm sure got passed around the communal circle for mind elevation purposes.  The front cover is an eye-catcher, for sure.  And the back cover is a strange one with more subdued colors.  There is a cast of different faces wandering the...temple.  Most I did not recognize.  However, Batman and The Green Hornet are visiting.  And the Mad magazine mascot.  A couple of naked ladies. (Schwing!)  A few cherubim.  A couple of airplanes.  The band wearing authoritative robes from centuries past.  It's a pretty entertaining album cover.

Favorites include the sassy "Thing In 'E'" that opens the square.  The Eastern-influenced “Tahitian Melody” has a dark, almost ominous kind of vibe.  And the killer jam..."Expectations"...finishes off the album on a high note.

My copy is a 2015 reissue on the original Mercury label.  The record had been sitting in my cart with a $28 price tag for months.  I was on the computer when I received a price drop notification for $12.00 shipped!  I immediately went to Amazon and grabbed it.  The price went back up that very same morning.  I just got lucky.  Has that ever happened to you guys?  This was the only album from The Savage Resurrection and definitely a square to grab if you have a jones for the psych stuff.
