This blog Began as a journal and tribute to my late father. At the time, I knew I wanted to start a blog but I had no direction or idea where to start. For the most part, I was looking for a platform to strengthen my writing discipline. I began to write with the idea of examining my relationship with my father; even two years after his death (he died in 2004), I was still trying to study his immense influence and the excellence of his life. As things go, the effort did not go very far regarding that subject. I began to write about my teaching experience. I was still at the academy at the time and the teaching schedule allowed me little time to think about anything else. Then I added books. Not so much the ones I was teaching but rather the ones I was reading for my own pleasure and edification. Then I added art, and writing, and music... and here we are.
Frequency of Silence -- Celebrating 10 Years of Blogging
The blog also became a refuge during some of the most difficult times in my life. I keep the account of those times out of this blog, and give little to identify me with. I never wanted to bring my problems here--as I said, this was the escape.
One regret I do have is not having started this blog in 2005, a year in which my yearly personal reading list reached epic proportions. There are some volumes from that year's list that I have re-read and therefore have included here. I am, however, tempted to go back and write entries for all of those titles. That was, once again, a difficult year but one made bearable by the escape to literature and art and music. 2009 was also tragic and difficult, and, once again, blogging made all the difference.
I have an ambitious list for this year, although I suspect the time constraints will make me push some of the titles to next year. Regardless, I am looking forward to keeping this alive and thank you all for your kind visits and comments.
