Tasting India Food Symposium 2017

Tasting India Symposium, an ideas fest where food writers, chefs, farmers and flag-bearers of sustainable lifestyles from across India and the U.S., U.K., U.A.E., Turkey, Sweden and Norway, came together for an exchange of knowledge on India’s gastronomical heritage, lost recipes, traditional food ingredients, untapped culinary tourism potential and the growing practice of organic farming, and to delve into India’s contributions to the worldwide movement towards sustainable lifestyles.

It was a three day fair held at India International Center , Lodhi Road.

It is here exchange of ideas took place where people who represent and are related to the F&B Industry talked here.

Tasting India Symposium Highlights:

* Release of the Centre for Science and Environment publication, First Food: Culture of Taste, by Mr Amitabh Kant, Dr Sunita Narain and Chef Manjit Gill (February 28).

* Talks by Colleen Taylor Sen, Priya Paul, Gautam Anand and Manish Mehrotra (March 1).

* A ‘Safe Food Culture’ discussion steered by FSSAI and the Centre for Science and Environment (March 1).

* The Chaupal  inaugurated by Mrs Maneka Gandhi, featuring ground-breaking organic farmers from Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Haryana and Rajasthan brought together by Ishira Mehta and Puneet Jhajharia (March 2).

* Short talks on Regional Indian cuisines by Arun Kumar T.R., Gunjan Goela, Michael Swamy, Pritha Sen, Sabyasachi Gorai and Salma Husain, among others. (March 2).

Tasting India Symposium has been conceived with a vision to empower Indian gastronomy. Tasting India Symposium endeavours to delve deeper into the principles of Ayurveda, showcasing India’s ‘lost foods’ which are produced by the poorest of the poor using sustainable agricultural practices.

It connected the international vegetarian movement with its peers here to popularise the Indian vegetarian diet as a sustainable option to reduce the planet’s carbon footprint and create a long-term basis for food security.

The symposium promoted established restaurants, old and new culinary trails, and spice routes through international food journalists and tour operators to attract a new category of high-spending international tourists.

Encouraging Food Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship through value addition across all consumer categories will always be a priority. Together with the above, Tasting India Symposium will culminate in preparing the blueprint of a global campaign to get India’s food products and brands on top of the global shelves and markets.

Tasting India Symposium is the brainchild of Sanjoo Malhotra and Sourish Bhattacharyya, who have been working since May 2015 towards making the symposium the most important forum to promote a better understanding of India’s diverse culinary heritage, food destinations and agricultural produce, and the sustainable diet options it can offer to the world.

The Tasting India Symposium: Eat in India

 | Make in India, endorsed by Incredible India, the state governments of Sikkim and Maharashtra, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), and  the EAT Forum Stockholm, seeks to introduce opinion-makers in the country and around the world to India’s opulent gastronomical heritage, its potential to emerge as a culinary tourism showcase for the world, and its vast wealth of wisdom relevant to the current global debate on sustainable lifestyles.

Delegates from the USA, Sweden, Norway, Turkey and the UAE will also get to travel to areas where a new generation of Indian farmers are changing the face of Indian food production.
