Mikel Arteta confirms results of Gabriel Jesus scan on knee injury

Mikel Arteta has confirmed the results of Gabriel Jesus’ scan on the hamstring Injury he picked up in the Champions League against Sevilla on Tuesday.

The Brazilian was key in the Gunners’ 2-1 victory in Spain, contributing a goal and an assist, but had to be withdrawn towards the end of the contest after feeling some discomfort.

Arteta was worried about the injury while speaking about Jesus after the Champions League fixture, admitting it was “not good news,” though the forward himself added he thought the problem was “not that big” after running tests with club physios.

However, Arteta has now confirmed Jesus will be missing for a few weeks.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Sheffield United, he told a pre-match press conference: “The scans show there is a muscle injury and we might lose him for a few weeks again. With Gabby, I cannot give you any timeframe because he always surprises us.”

Jesus missed four games in August due to a knee injury, having been ruled out for more than three months back in 2022/23 with a blow sustained during the World Cup in Qatar.

Eddie Nketiah has often filled in up front when Jesus has been sidelined with injury and could come into the starting XI for the clash with Sheffield United on Saturday. Kai Havertz is another option, with Arteta claiming the Germany international “has been really good” in that role.

Arsenal have also suffered an injury blow in their midfield ranks, with Thomas Partey ruled out in the short-term.

Arteta added: “He’s got a muscle injury and we expect him to be out for a few weeks. We don’t know the extent of it, he has more scans today. He got in training with the last kick of the ball.”
