Ayra Starr blasts Headies, and its owner, Ayo Animashaun, says she “I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage”

Ayra Starr, a young Nigerian musician, has slammed the Headies Awards for watering down the Best Female Artist Award.

Recall that the 16th edition of the biggest music award ceremony took place on Sunday night at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center.

The ‘Celebrating African Renaissance’ award was created to honor Afrobeats and African culture. Several African A-list performers from around Africa were in attendance during the ceremony.

Despite winning the Best Female Artist Award, Ayra is dissatisfied with the show’s organizers.

Unlike, the Best Male Artist Award and other awards, which were announced on stage; organizers of the Headies award didn’t deem it worthy to announce Ayra Starr as the Best Female Artist of the Year.

Infuriated by their action, she took to the micro-blogging platform to slam them for demeaning female artists.

Using Tiwa Savãge and Tems as examples, Ayra noted how female singers work extremely hard in the industry.

She stated that they don’t deserve such nonchalance and she would never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t deemed fit to be announced on stage as Nigeria didn’t raise her to settle for less.

“I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage! Best Female Artist na beans? We work hard, every single one of us! I’ve seen Tiwa record 4 hit songs in the same night. Tems breaths and lives for music, we didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria, you didn’t raise me to settle for less”.
