‘What Was The Criteria That Was Used In Rejecting Mr Gbenga Omotoso & Prof Akin Abayomi?’ – Ekujumi

The Executive Director of the Centre for Social and Economic Rights, Nelson Ekujumi, has expressed worry regarding the selection criteria used by the Lagos assembly in removing former Health Commissioner, Professor Akin Abayomi, and Information Commissioner, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso.

During an interview with Arise TV news, Ekujumi remarked that the rejection of 17 commissioner nominees by the Lagos state assembly is generating consternation throughout the state.

He said, ”A lot of Lagosians and even Nigerians have been asking, what was the criteria that was used in rejecting somebody like Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the commissioner for information with his pedigree, and Professor Akin Abayomi? People are wondering that what is really amiss, We are left shocked and even till this moment, Lagosians are still talking about it.

Could there be more beneath the surface, or are there undisclosed factors at play? From my perspective, this situation is embarrassing yet in alignment with democratic practices. I think this is democracy at play, it now behooves the governor and the Lagos state assembly to have a productive consultation.”
