According to Ghana’s army spokesperson, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Military commanders will meet on Thursday and Friday in Accra, Ghana, amid unease over a potential military intervention in the Republic of Niger.

Initially, ECOWAS member nations considered launching a military operation against the coup plotters in Niger.

During a special summit, the Heads of state of the bloc had instructed a military force to be ready to restore constitutional order.

However, they insisted that efforts should continue to be made to settle the problem peacefully.

Recall that the ECOWAS defense ministers and military leaders previously met last week following the coup in Niger.

They created deployment strategies after giving the putschists an ultimatum.

Among the 15 ECOWAS members, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and Benin declared their willingness to provide troops in the case of an intervention.
