President Bola Tinubu, the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, may hold a second Meeting with ECOWAS leaders in the coming days.

This comes after the one-week deadline set for the military junta in Niger Republic expired on Sunday midnight.

A presidential aide, who prefers to remain anonymous, revealed that the purpose of the meeting would be to make a final decision regarding the resolutions made during the June 30th meeting in Abuja.

Additionally, the source stated that ECOWAS would meet again in Abuja to determine the next course of action.

“The heads of government would reconvene to decide on the next option. But no date has been fixed for the meeting where a final decision would be made on how to deal with the situation in Niger,” the senior official stated.

It should be noted that ECOWAS had previously given a seven-day ultimatum to the military junta in Niger Republic led by Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani to reinstate ousted President Muhammed Bazoum.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu, on Sunday, met with the governors of states that share borders  with Niger Republic.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, made this known in a post via his official Twitter handle.

“President @officialABAT on Sunday evening met with governors of states that share boundaries with Niger Republic at the State House in Abuja. The meeting was part of wider consultations by the President on the situation in Niger.

“Sokoto, Kebbi, Yobe, Katsina and Jigawa governors,” Ngelale tweeted.
