Lionel Messi has confirmed that he will play for Inter Miami this summer in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The 35-year-old’s potential return to Barcelona, the team where he first made his reputation, received a lot of attention.

However, Messi explained in a Mundo Deportivo interview that he did not want to put the LaLiga winners through financial hardship.

“I really wanted to return, I was very excited to be able to return, but, on the other hand, after having Experienced what I experienced when I left, I didn’t want to be in the same situation again.

“Although I heard that La Liga had accepted my return and everything was fine, many other things also needed to happen.

“I heard that Barça needed to sell players and reduce salaries, I didn’t want to go through all of that.”
