SHINee’s “Don’t Call Me” Was Almost Recorded By Two Different SM Entertainment Artists First

Netizens react to the artists who almost recorded the hit 2021 single.

In 2021, SHINee released their seventh studio album, Don’t Call Me. For many reasons, this release is memorable for Shawols.

The title track, “Don’t Call Me,” was SHINee’s first group release following the return of Minho, Key, and Onew from the military and was also the final group single before maknae Taemin enlisted in the military himself.

Taemin has returned from his military service, and the group is promoting their eighth studio album, HARD, and celebrating their 15th anniversary.

During their comeback promotions, SHINee’s Key, Minho, and Taemin appeared on JTBC‘s K-909 hosted by their labelmate and sunbae, BoA.

While catching up with BoA, the SHINee members took viewers back to their “Don’t Call Me” promotions and opened up about how the Song wasn’t originally meant for them.

In 2021, BoA met with SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man, who playfully called out the veteran singer for rejecting a song he picked for her.

Instead of choosing Lee Soo Man’s song, she selected Yoo Young Jin’s track “Better,” while revealing that the SM founder had originally chosen “Don’t Call Me” for her.

Fans speculated that the track was later given to SHINee, which the group confirmed in February 2021 on the Cultwo Show.

During SHINee’s recent interview on K-909, they revealed that BoA wasn’t the only SM Entertainment artist that almost sang the song.

BoA revealed that the song was also a possibility for the SM Entertainment project group GOT The Beat, which she is also a member of.

Fans hilariously took a moment to reflect on what could have been for GOT The Beat while sharing that the project group would have nailed the concept.

While “Don’t Call Me” didn’t end up with BoA or GOT The Beat, SHINee stunned netizens with their take on the hard-hitting concept!
