The Cleveland Cavaliers fired coach Ty Lue on Sunday and plan to promote Larry Drew to interim coach, league sources told ESPN.
Cleveland has started the season with six straight losses.
Lue’s stint as the Cavs’ head coach began in 2015 while LeBron James was still on the roster. Lue and the Cavs went on to beat the Warriors in the NBA finals that season. However, the Cavs haven’t been able to finish at the Finals in their last few appearances.
Lue will be replaced by Larry Drew who will be the interim coach according to ESPN.
Lue is still owed roughly $15 million on the contract he signed in 2016 after the team won the title, sources said.
