Powerball Winner of $560m Fighting In Court to Remain Anonymous

A woman who won a $560 million Powerball jackpot in New Hampshire last month has yet to collect her winnings.

The woman has filed a Lawsuit against the New Hampshire Lottery Commission saying she made a “huge mistake” when she signed her real name on the back of the winning lottery ticket prior to speaking with a lawyer. She says after she contacted a lawyer, they informed her that she could have remained anonymous if she had a trust and a trustee sign the ticket.

Jane Doe filed the lawsuit last week.

“She wishes to continue this work and the freedom to walk into a grocery store or attend public events without being known or targeted as the winner of a half-billion dollars,” the complaint said.

Her lawsuit makes mention of her plans with the money. She has hopes of giving back

“to the state and community that has given so much to her.”

The lawsuit was filed by the law firm of Shaheen and Gordon. Her lawyer William Shaheen wrote a blog on the lawsuit.

“Don’t sign that back of the ticket because if you sign it you lost confidentiality,” he says. “It becomes public, and you lost the option of staying anonymous.”

The lawsuit has prevented the woman from claiming the lottery prize and her lawyers sway she is losing a ton of interest the longer she waits.
