A white Woman in Staten Island, New York made false claims that a black woman she didn’t know sprayed her in the face with sulfuric acid — only to recant and admit she sprayed herself.
Inside Edition reported that Lizzie Dunn, a resident of the outer borough, claimed she was attacked earlier in the week at her bus stop by a black woman in her 40’s to whom she denied cigarettes and money.
After the attack, Dunn reportedly ran to a nearby deli and works initially thought Dunn’s actions were part of a prank but they quickly realized the situation definitely wasn’t a laughing matter. “We thought it was a prank at first,” Andrew Kenwood, who was working at the deli, told NBC. “She came in here, she was banging on the door, banging on the door. She was almost fainting and falling. … When I tell you it was absolutely horrible — it looks like her face is melting off.” But, now new details have confirmed Dunn’s story was nothing more than a lie. Then, to make matters worse, investigators have uncovered the disturbing truth about how Dunn actually got the burns.
On Tuesday, January 9, the NYPD’s 123rd Precinct tweeted and revealed the truth about Dunn’s injuries. “The alleged acid assault in the Woodrow area yesterday has been found to have not occurred,” the Precinct tweeted. “The injuries were self-inflicted and there is no perpetrator. There is no threat to the public.”
As expected, social media users are have responded with outrage but what’s more enraging is the fact that it’s still unclear whether or not Dunn will face charges for filing the false police report. Police also have yet to reveal why Dunn opted to harm herself.
