The lurker that secretly bought vintage Tsar while on hiatus

Well, I haven’t posted much on Basenotes over the year.

Much of it is due to the harsh reality of COVID-19 and the need to minimize and simplify things in my life. Unfortunately, my posts on Basenotes were a victim of this. However, I was buying fragrance and fragranced body products, especially fine milled bath soaps. I did buy a bottle of Van Cleef & Arpels Tsar, vintage/second formulation and first (pre-IFRA) formula made by Interparfums, for $25 from a local store. Then, I learned that it was worth $400 on eBay.

I didn’t post this because my life wasn’t in balance. It still isn’t, as COVID-19 hit the world harder than expected. I was going to be in Chicago last March... then April... then June... and now no specific date. And I haven’t been able to try new releases. Ugh. But there’s good things... for one, I still have a job, and one I enjoy for that part. And after this peak month for the US, more is to come and better days are ahead for me. I just have to get through COVID-19 peak month unscathed.

I have avoided malls for the time being as well. That said, I’m working with a local downtown store owner to bring a line of fragrances to her store. I don’t want to reveal the brand yet, but I will say that the fragrances are Basenotes favorites from Italy. I’m also considering other fragrance-related side projects. And yes, I plan to resume normal levels of posts here once things stabilize.

P.S.: Don’t bash me because I know the guy that is the US distributor for Navitus. It was strictly by chance and I knew him even before he started distributing fragrances.
