Mediocrity In The Past Decade

An article written by: Lee Sonogan

“It’s a disease. Nobody thinks or feels or cares any more; nobody gets excited or believes in anything except their own comfortable little God damn mediocrity.” ― Richard Yates, Revolutionary Road

The second Decade I have experienced a whole ten years. On the law of averages, the beginnings of the Year 2000 to 2010 were more impressive. A little more lacking in comparison in impact, more on awareness and identity. Questioning the inadequacy and vulnerability these past ten years, it is certainly a milestone in reaching the point of many subjects.

Disappointed in the so-called progress, most things remain the same. People 50 years ago thought we would be living in some efficient and peaceful utopia. With that not being the case, conflict arises through behaviour, perception, and unnecessary action. Is it our nature to strive for simplicity or is the individualistic conversation into action the blame?

Groups in politics have always been a two-party system. Sub-groups seep in focused on tribalistic elements. Truthful leaders that built-up singular people are far from few. Leaving the self-unstimulated unfulfilled. Hence unsatisfied crying out for the easiest path of Mediocrity.

Entertainment takes advantage of these emotions delivering its own messages. This decade would not be as memorable for not producing some quality television. Including its saturated niche market. Listing out a few more necessary contributions to the culture include, how technology is implemented, longer content such as podcasts, within all the debates, most of the time everything is at least managed towards the status quo.

I could attack what I think is dumb and unnecessary in much more description, on the other hand, it undermines what I am trying to say. Besides the cringe, its not all for nothing because of the foundations being constructed. Consumerism pushing its boundaries for more than enough entrepreneurs that pop up if earnt.

“Everyone, either from modesty or egotism, hides away the best and most delicate of his soul’s possessions; to gain the esteem of others, we must only ever show our ugliest sides; this is how we keep ourselves on the common level” ― Gustave Flaubert, November

Grateful that whatever negative events took place in the last double-digit years, there are more people out there now to make the next decade way more direct. Crediting just one more thing about this decade is that it got more people consuming information. A collaborative world mass has the potential to showcase higher statistic in all field then ever expects out through history.
