Multiculturalism Is Inevitable

An article written by: Lee Sonogan

“A multicultural society does not reject the culture of the other but is prepared to listen, to see, to dialogue and, in the final analysis, to possibly accept the other’s culture without compromising its own.” – Reuven Rivlin

Multiculturalism is unavoidable as for I am concerned. But what is Multiculturalism? And if you surveyed random people how would they all define it? Worldwide Multiculturalism is a controversial issue with the left, the right and everybody in between and they all have an opinion on. Some people claim that multiculturism has failed but every country in the world is and almost always was influenced by other countries and cultures.

In the next few paragraphs, I will be describing the pros and cons of multiculturalism. Even though many people including myself want multiculturalism to be all positives, there are potential threats in the negative that could affect us in modern times. Firstly, I will speak about my favourite ideologies from the concept of multiculturalism. The idea of accepting everyone regardless of their cultures/traditions means more different kinds of people being able to collaborate, innovate and be creative while having a diverse source knowledge and experience at their counties disposal.

Regulated Immigration may be a terrible situation that happens around the world but accepting individuals into a country who can support new citizens, can lead to economic growth, community style, the change of different opinions, you can learn about the positives of other cultures and more. Their education and experience can bring new skills into businesses, commercially and in entertainment that you will see a variety of people. I could go more deeply into these pro details but it is to talk about the cons.

My idea of regulated immigration is gaining the best people who can contribute the best to a country can gain citizenship. While offering the best support at immigration camps such as education or other programs to improve their chance of getting citizenship. These days it is the complete opposite of that and most people are refused and deported and then worse with not always the best people get through. People with diverse cultures in modern times will argue their differences regardless and there will always be divided groups on all
things.

The potential for conflict can be tame and simple or likely and complex. First of there is the language barrier making it hard to communicate depending on the levels of language the individuals have. A multicultural workforce team may have issues in collaborating. If you politically believe in nationalism to a certain extent then it can phase out of being a defined culture. And many aspects of everyday life could be hard to adjust to for different amounts of time like anyone else would if you had to live in a new country far from what your use too.

Multiculturalism is inevitable but it should not be forced upon us. Some push this forcing narrative which is cringe-worthy. A healthy society is one that works toward common goals and common ideals that in a way releases a tension becoming stronger. Social trust needs to be influenced and developed on overtime in a county capable of having new citizens. To finalise my point that multiculturalism is inevitable, we will learn to work out all the issues out to be more accepting in the next one hundred years or there will be war and more unnecessary death.
