Split, a movie review

A Movie review by: Lee Sonogan

(2017) 1h57min/ Horror, thriller

Dr Fletcher: An individual with multiple personalities can change their body chemistry with their thoughts.

M.Night Shyamalans newest movie. IMDB describes the movie as three girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed twenty three distinct Personalities, they must try to escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new twenty fourth. With a nine million budget, it made 269 million in the box office. A brutal portrayal of personality disorder and its themes of human evolution.

Like Kevin, James McAvoy in this movie, a real person by the name of Billy Milligan was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder with 24 personalities inside him. His condition was used in his defense for crimes he said was committed not by him but his other personalities.

Director M. Night Shyamalan appears in the movie as Jai, the fast-food loving concierge of the apartment building where Dr. Fletcher works. They look at the security cameras after Barry leaves after their appointment. M. Night Shyamalan stated that shooting this film was the most challenging of his career. The 5th M. Night Shyamalan movie to gross more than $100m at the US box office.

James McAvoy is amazing in this film. Playing all the different personalities really adds an interest to the film. James McAvoy broke his hand during production. He decided not to tell anyone and continued to shoot for 2 days before finally going to a hospital. Thriller themes are done well and you don’t know what will happen next. The ending with the twist is worth watching the whole thing. I recommend this movie to fans of psychological thrillers, movies with twists, impressive acting in one location and a well written storys.

The beast: You are different from the rest. Your heart is pure! Rejoice! The broken are the more evolved. Rejoice.

7.6/10
