White Stripes – Elephant

By Charlie Matthews

Released April 1st, 2003 “Elephant” would be the fourth Album by the White Stripes. It was released to critical acclaim and was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album at the 2004 Grammy Awards. In 2013, as a celebration of the album’s 10 year anniversary,  it was re-released by Third Man Records.

“Elephant” was recorded over the course of 2 weeks in April of 2002 at Toe Rag Studios in London, England. The entire album was an attempt for the White Stripes duo to get back to basics, and that included the use of an analog recording studio. The album’s liner notes state that “no computers were used during the writing, recording, mixing, or mastering of this record”.
