Yesterday, as Oprah Winfrey accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the 2018 Golden Globes, her speech left the audience, and everybody who tuned into the show, inspired! Becoming the first Black woman to receive this award, Oprah gave her listeners a glimpse of one of her childhood memories as she reminisced on watching actor, Sidney Poitier,being the first black man, to receive the same award in 1982.

Oprah delivered a powerful speech, strongly encouraging men and women, especially women, to speak their truth, share their personal stories, and fight hard to become leaders of a new society. Referring to her mother’s abusive past, and the tragedy of Recy Taylor that occurred in 1944, she expressed how it is important to not only speak up, but to also always fight through life’s rough patches. She ended her speech by reminding all of the women and girls watching to keep in mind that “a new day is on the horizon!”

After Oprah’s phenomenal speech, many viewers were impressed and raving! Most even saying that they could see Oprah Winfrey entering the world of politics, and running for office in 2020! Now this is something we would love to see! She would definitely get our vote!
