The Director Abhijit Sen has dedicated this new film Prajapati to the memory of the late Tarun Majumdar. “Prajapati” is undoubtedly a clean commercial film in its structure, layout, and narration. Father and unmarried son’s feelings of love, pride, and jokes will not feel bad after seeing a pure and clean picture – the movie “Prajapati” guarantees it!
When people reach an age, they suffer from loneliness, they need a loving hand and heart. Gaur Chakraborty (Mithun), the old and lively man of the film, is like that. What can parents want in old age? In the words of Gaur Chakraborty, a 70-year-old pensioner, “Boys and girls will be around…what more could one want at this age?”
Middle-class Gaur and his son Joy live in Kolkata. Gaur’s wife passed away when their son Joy was five years old. Joy is a wedding planner and he is very busy. His father cooks twice a day, makes tiffin for his son, and manages everything in the house. He has only one dream at this age. He will marry his son and bring his wife home. But who can afford to marry his son?
His son Jay (Dev), who is successful in business, cannot understand the emptiness of his father’s heart at first. Even, the young employee of his own business Mala (Shweta) was able to see the hidden feelings! could not.
Gaur suddenly met his student-life girlfriend Kusum (Mamata Shankar) after 46 years but, realized that both of them lacked a true “friend”. Although Kusum doesn’t respond at first, unable to stay silent any longer at Gaur’s call of loneliness, she gives a silent nod. But the relatives and society became a social barrier in the meeting of the two elders of these “seventy-four and a half” years.

Dev is very mature in this movie. His accent has become much more sophisticated. His performance in the role of Joy is convincing enough and beautiful too.
But the film is being promoted as a film of Dev-Mithun in the role of father and son, but in fact, the film is of Mithun-Mamata Shankar. And their friendship. The friendship that shines in the life of Joy-Mala. Mamata Shankar is the Kusum of the film. After 47 years of Mrinal Sen’s ‘Mrigaya’, Mithun-Mamata acted together again. Their scenes as two friends are amazing.
Mamata Shankar is the center point of the film. Mithun-Mamata acted together again after 47 years of Mrinal Sen’s “Mrigaya“. Their scenes as two friends are amazing. But if we have to say who the film is, then it must be Mithun Chakraborty. What kind of actor he is, Mithun Chakraborty has made very clear. It’s amazing to see how he has changed his posture in an instant. After all these years, Mithun’s performance in a Bengali film undoubtedly owes a lot to the audience. As an actor, Mamata Shankar is also unmatched.
A song sung by Nachiketa Chakraborty in the movie, filled with emotions, “Bhenge Dekho Amay” has really touched all hearts. The lyrics of the song were written by Prasen. Composition, arrangement, and programming done by Rathijit Bhattacharjee.
Other actors have only accompanied these two actors or better said, Mithun. And well done. Be it Devi, Ishita (Mala), or Kaninika (Gaura’s daughter). Kaushani Mukherjee is also good in a small role. There is another special triangle in the picture. The trio of Mithun-Kharaj Mukhopadhyay-Ambarish Bhattacharya also. All three are great actors.
Their friendly conversation can be called the life of the film. But it would have been better if there was not so much melodrama toward the end. Although many were seen wiping their eyes. That means the film is successful. There is a ‘feel good’ thing in the film. This picture is of Mithun. So if visitors go to see him after so many years, don’t be disappointed. The post The Bengali film industry enriched once again with Prajapati first appeared on Bigumbrella.
