Closet to Mudroom Remodel

TRANSFORMATION FROM CLOSET TO MUDROOM

I love a spot for “Stuff!” Don’t you????

We all have STUFF, right? SO MUCH STUFF! But when its so beautifully organized it doesn’t feel so overwhelming.

I wanted to show you something that I am LOVING in my home right now.

Our new under the stairs “Mud room”

Closet to Cute Designer Mudroom

( Okay so the picture is backwards. LOL! )

We have had this room (big closet) under our stairs and its served its time as a play room for our kiddos for about 5 years. ** The cutest playroom you ever have seen** But as our children have gotten older the need for a play room was outgrown. It was super nice serving as a playroom because you could just open the door, throw toys in nicely or not so nice and you could SHUT the door. That was a game changer. But as our youngest grew out of little toys, I wanted a room that could benefit the whole family.

Soooooo we decided to make a designated spot for our backpacks, purses, coats, homework etc. “A drop all zone if you will.”

I had my AMAZING and oh so talented brother TJ come over and remodel it for us. He did a fantastic job and it turned out better than I could have imagined.

Shoutout to TC3 Construction!

  1. We decided last minute to rip out the carpet. So my brother and I went on the hunt for peel & stick flooring. It was’t that easy to find. We did however find this design and ONLY this design on clearance at Lowes. It was exactly what I had in mind….. So we bought them out. We bought every last 8×8 square they had. They were super inexpensive at 59 cents a square. Brought them home and my hubs and brother laid them all down. They did use an adhesive glue to secure the sticker to the floor just for extra strength. ** Isn’t this flooring FUN??!!

2. Then I painted the back Wall WHITE. The closet was pretty dark. We had two small lights in there, but I knew painting it white would really brighten the space up. And it sure did

3. From there Tj framed out the back wall to what my vision was with a bunch of 2x4x8’s and went to work. He started at the bottom and worked his way up the wall. We needed 5 larger cubbies at the bottom of the bench so that my kiddos all had a spot for shoes or sports items. But we had extra space on the side so we made extra cubbies for ANYTHING EXTRA that needed a spot

2x4x8’s

3. Then we had the Ship Lap cut into 3inch strips at lowes with a partical board ($18.59 per piece of board/ we had them cut it) and nailed those to the wall with a nail gun. We used a nickel coin to space out the ship lap so they had the same measurement gap between. (great tip by the way). Painted a second coat of white paint. * This was the most inexpensive way to ship lap. It was my first time trying it and it was so easy. The cuts were not perfect so I did do some sanding to the edges.

4. And to finish it all off, My dad came by and helped at the end with some finish work because he has just the “eye” for that. Added some cute lights ($24.99 each @ Lowes) and some hooks ($5.49 each) and BOOM…..

All the cubbies

5. Bonus– I loved this so much, I decided I wanted the long wall on the left to be “just as cute” so we ship lapped that wall too and added some smaller bronze/black hooks @ $2.99 (2 pack) from Lowes to hang some more “STUFF”!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! It”s honestly my favorite room in my house! I just love how functional it is for our whole family. We all have our own hook for a backpack or purse and we have the whole wall into the It is “for the most part” kept clean, and my kids know exactly where to find their backpack, homework, coat, etc….. And its been nice during Covid because I have used the “behind the corner” area for food storage.

“I encourage you to designate a spot in your house for STUFF aka CRAP!

I encourage you to designate a spot in your house for STUFF aka CRAP! Whatever that may look like to you. It can be a closet, a room, a drawer anything.. but It’s always nice to have somewhere for your things to live
