‘The Hit List’ : The Dream, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Cardi B, The Chainsmokers & more…

The Dream – “Code Blue” :

The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar – “Pray For Me” : Ok now to some new music, and there hasn’t been bigger hype for any movie at the moment more then there has been for Marvel’s forthcoming flick “Black Panther”. Just days after the release of the official track list for the soundtrack comes the release of the latest effort from it by artists The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar called “Pray For Me”. The single is produced by Sounwave, CuBeatz, Cardo and Matt Schaeffer, sounds like a bonus track off Weeknd’s 2016 album “Starboy”futuristic and fast-paced. Kendrick’s rap only adds to the finesse of this single but it’s clear by the instrumental’s it’s made for The Weeknd. “Pray For Me” marks the second time the two chart-toppers have collaborated, following their 2016 track “Sidewalks” off “Starboy”. Expect to see some big names in the hip hop world lend their music to the soundtrack including SZA, Vince Staples, Future, James Blake, Swae Lee, Anderson .Paak and more.

The Black Eyed Peas – “Street Livin'” : Eight years after their last studio album, The Black Eyed Peas are back without Fergie – with a bleak, politically heavy new single, “Street Livin”. This latest effort is different from what were used to by TBEP, gone is their signature EDM beats, auto-tunes and most notably Fergie. Instead we are given something a little more gritty, and a song that focuses more on lyrics and message as apposed to chart topping viral hit. For die hard fans of The Peas this will be an authentic return for the group who have gotten back to their root sound on this single. The sad thing is though as great as the presentation of this song is, it won’t get radio airplay due to it missing the key radio influence of Fergie. But hey if you have a moment give the guys a chance you might be impressed, “Street Livin'” is out now.

Cardi B (feat. 21 Savage) – Bartier Cardi : In the hip hop world Cardi B popped up out of nowhere, since her viral hit “Bodak Yellow” stormed the charts. Now she’s flaunting her love of diamonds, sports cars and sex on her hard-charging new single, “Bartier Cardi,” featuring  rapper 21 Savage. There’s no word on when we can expect her debut LP but so far she’s had a lot of success without it, she recently earned Grammy nods for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Bodak Yellow” and became the first female solo rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. In an interview recently she spoke about her debut LP saying “I got six, seven solid songs that I like, but I wonder if a month from now, I’m going to change my mind, It’s not as fun to do music. My mind doesn’t flow as free ’cause I have so much on my mind.” I personally wasn’t a fan of “Bodak Yellow” but this new single has given me a little more appreciation for Cardi B’s music and her rhyming skills. “Bartier Cardi” is available now.

Keys N Krates (feat. Tory Lanez) – “Music To My Ears” : Before singer Tory Lanez releases his brand new album “Memories Don’t Die” he’s teamed up with Keys N Krates for the hot new song “Music To My Ears”. The electronic banger finds Lanez singing to his lover with musical metaphors, and I didn’t realize how well his voice is suited for house music until now. Recently, he also celebrated his various guest spots on Twitter, which might include “Music to My Ears.” “Not only is the album coming out March 2nd … but I have really put in a lot of wrk giving everybody features,” he wrote. “IM FINALLY OPEN TO FEATURE.” For fans of house duo Keys N Krates you can hear this new single on their album which is available now called “Cura”, and after hearing this song I think you will all be purchasing it.

Sting & Shaggy – “Don’t Make Me Wait” : Now to something we probably would of never expected, tropical rapper Shaggy and Grammy Award winning singer Sting have not only teamed up for a new single entitled “Don’t Make Me Wait”, but they also have a new collaboration album due out soon. Though they barely knew each other a year ago, the mixture of their vocals seem to work effectively, for this single anyway. The laid back reggae beats aren’t new for Shaggy for it’s a different direction were not used to hearing from Sting. Once the two got in the studio together it was a match made Sting describes “We just had a rapport,” says Sting. “I decided a joint venture was much more exciting than him just guesting.” Recently Sting traveled with Shaggy to Jamaica for the “Shaggy and Friends” charity concert, where they first performed the song live. The concert benefited the Bustamante Hospital for Children, the only English-speaking pediatric hospital in the Caribbean.

The Chainsmokers – “Sick Boy” : Surprisingly after such a successful 2017, EDM group have released an unnoticed new song “Sick Boy”. The new song was released on Jan. 17th and it’s their first radio release since the single “Honest”. This new track was written by The Chainsmokers, Tony Ann and Emily Warren through Columbia Records and Disruptor Records. On the first day of 2018, The Chainsmokers teased new material by revealing their new logo on social media. They dropped the post: “How many likes is my life worth?” On January 16, 2018, the song was promoted on a  billboard in Times Square, which reads: “How many likes is my life worth?” “Sick Boy” has been described by the boys as a song about self identity in today’s world and standing tall in the face of what you can and can’t control. This new darker sounding track is a far cry from the success they had with their EDM pop venture, which could be the reason the boys are charting with it as quick as the previous album hits.

Iggy Azalea (feat. Quavo) – “Savior” : Iggy Azalea has been pretty quiet since she dropped her single “Bounce”, but now the Australian born rapper is back with a new release called “Savior” which features Migos rapped Quavo. Like always an Iggy single is made for the dance floor and this song is no different as this tropical-inspired house beat, “Savior” finds Iggy and Quavo singing and rapping about finding someone to save them. But on twitter recently Iggy explained the meaning behind the new track saying “It’s about you being your own savior and finding your own strength within yourself to figure it the fuck out. It’s a really hard record for me to have written and I think it’s going to be one I really struggle to perform, too, just ‘cause I’ll probably wanna cry every single time.”
