Tamil actor-director G Marimuthu, who recently appeared in the Tamil blockbuster ‘Jailer,’ tragically passed away on Friday following a heart attack, as reported by various sources. He was 57 years old.

According to accounts from the Tamil media, Marimuthu collapsed at approximately 8:30 am today while engaged in dubbing for his television series ‘Ethirneechal.’ He was swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital, where, regrettably, he was declared deceased.

Marimuthu’s illustrious career spanned over 50 films, in addition to his significant contributions as a movie director and actor in television productions. His untimely departure has sent shockwaves throughout the Tamil Film industry, with many fans expressing their grief and condolences on social media platforms, including X (formerly known as Twitter).

Actress Radhika Sarathkumar conveyed her condolences through her X account, saying, “I am deeply saddened and shocked by the news of #marimuthu’s passing. I had the privilege of working with him – a man of immense talent, gone too soon. My heartfelt condolences to his family.” Actor Arun Vijay tweeted, “It is indeed shocking to hear of the demise of #Marimuthu sir. He was a wonderful actor and an even better person, taken from us too soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May his soul rest in peace…”

Who Was Marimuthu?
In 1990, G Marimuthu left his hometown of Pasumalaitheri in Theni with aspirations of becoming a film director in Chennai. Initially, he worked as a waiter in hotels, but his passion for literature eventually led him to cross paths with the renowned lyricist Vairamuthu. This encounter paved the way for Marimuthu to secure a role as an assistant director, working on films like ‘Aranmanai Kili’ (1993) and ‘Ellame En Rasathan’ (1995) alongside Rajkiran.

Marimuthu continued his journey as an assistant director, collaborating with prominent filmmakers such as Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman, and SJ Surya. He also served as a co-director on Silambarasan’s ‘Manmadhan.’

Directorial Debut
Marimuthu made his directorial debut in 2008 with ‘Kannum Kannum,’ featuring Prasanna and Udhayathara. Although the movie didn’t set the box office ablaze, it received critical acclaim.

He later directed ‘Pulivaal’ (2014), drawing inspiration from the Malayalam film ‘Chaappa Kurishu’ (2011). In the 2010s, Marimuthu shifted his focus to his acting career, taking on supporting roles in various Tamil films. His debut performance in Mysskin’s ‘Yuddham Sei’ (2011), where he portrayed a corrupt police officer, garnered attention. This success led to roles in movies like ‘Aarohanam’ (2012), ‘Nimirndhu Nil’ (2014), and ‘Komban’ (2015), often cast as a police officer. His portrayal in ‘Marudhu’ (2016) caught the eye of Vishal, who cast him in ‘Kaththi Sandai’ (2016). Marimuthu also ventured into television serials and gained a significant fan following for his portrayal of the main antagonist in ‘Ethirneechal.’
