The inaugural workshop of the India-United States Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) took place on Thursday, organized jointly by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and Pennsylvania State University in the United States. The collaborative initiative, co-facilitated by the US Department of Defense and Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), aims to enhance defense excellence and cooperation between the two nations.

This endeavor provided a practical platform for the two countries to strengthen their defense collaboration, identify common challenges, and establish mentorship programs.

During the event, which attracted over 500 participants from both nations, discussions centered around advancements in space technology and artificial intelligence. Topics such as market access, funding, legislative reforms, and technology transfer were examined, highlighting the roles that academia, startups, and industry play in fostering innovation within the defense sector.

Speakers underscored the vital roles of startups and academic institutions in shaping the defense industry. Representatives from various nationally significant academic institutions deliberated on the potential outcomes of such collaborations.

Professor Vijay Narayanan of Penn State University, through the INDUS-X platform, elaborated on the significance of partnerships between academia and startup initiatives.
