Bongofari - The originator of Odo Reggae calls for the return of the Global Citizen Festival

The Global Citizen Festival in Accra took place on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, in Black Star Square which saw people from all walks of life, race, cultural backgrouds and other attributes coming together as one.

The Global Citizen Festival started as a music festival where fans take actions to end extreme poverty in order to earn free tickets to attend.

The inaugural Global Citizen Festival took place on September 29, 2012 with 60,000 in attendance on the Great Lawn in New York’s iconic Central Park. The festival featured live performances by Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses, K’Naan and more. Since then, artists like Rihanna, Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, Billie Eilish, and many more have performed on the Global Citizen Festival stage.

The concert is timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly to leverage opportunities to get policy and financial commitments from government, corporate and philanthropic leaders. Tickets to the festival are awarded through points earned by taking actions to fight extreme poverty, such as signing petitions, calling your political representatives, participating in challenges, and more.

The 2022 Global Citizen Festival took place in Black Star Square Accra, Ghana, and on Great Lawn in Central Park in New York City, USA, on 24 September.

The 2022 Global Citizen Festival called on world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 and COP27 in November, to step up and invest $600 million into the future of women and girls, close $10 billion climate financing shortfall, deliver $500 million to help African farmers respond to the global food crisis, and provide urgent relief for crushing debts to End Extreme Poverty NOW.

With all its tourism inputs and for that matter Bongofari thinks the stakholders in this country- Ghana - shoud do well to lobby to get the festival here once more.

"The festival played a mojor role in showcasing Ghana to the world" he added

Fred Samuel Adjei Crawther, better known as Bongofari, is always a lively act to watch as he struts on stage and belts out songs of his own which he describes as Odo Reggae on the Global Citizen Stage alongside Major artistes scheduled on Tiw Savage,
Usher, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Stormzy, SZA, TEMS, ,Uncle Waffles among others.

His material often comprises love lyrics rendered in Twi with a sprinkling of English and French, all clothed with some pleasing Highlife and reggae rhythms. That approach is noticeable in his songs like Odo Reggae, Cherie Je t’aime, I’m Serious, Righteousness and Freedom.

This years edition was held in Rwanda and Kendrick Lamar brought the sold out crowd to their feet for an unforgettable headline performance, with a setlist that spanned his full catalogue, performing with local Rwandan dancers on 'Blacker The Berry,' 'Count Me Out' and 'Savior.'
