West Meets East Screenplay Lab concludes

The West Meets East Screenplay Lab, a four-day event comprising screenplay lab and co-production market, ended at Alliance Francaise de Dhaka in Dhanmondi on Friday.

The event was organised as part of the ongoing Dhaka International Film Festival 2024. It was overseen by co-convenors AKA Reza Ghalib, and Sadia Khalid Reeti.

A total of 109 screenplay.biz/top-screenplays/" 786 target="_blank">screenplays from different countries in South Asia were submitted to the event.

A jury comprising Independent filmmaker and film activist from Bangladesh N Rashed Chowdhury, Dhaka-based freelance filmmaker Sameer Ahmed, Norwegian film distributor Åge Hoffart, Greek film producer Angelos Stavros Rallis and Bulgarian filmmaker Yana Lekarska selected ten screenplay.biz/top-screenplays/" 786 target="_blank">screenplays for the event.

The selected screenplay.biz/top-screenplays/" 786 target="_blank">screenplays are, namely ‘Castle by the Shore’ by Bangladeshi Jaheen Faruque Amin, Niamoth Ullah Masum and Tanha Zafreen, ‘Red Lights Blue Angels’ by Bangladeshi filmmaker Afsana Mimi and Tanveer Hossain, ‘Punishment’ by Bangladeshi filmmaker Leesa Gazi and Aanon Siddiqua, ‘White Gold’ by Bhutanese director Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk, ‘A Life Lost and Found’ by Indian director Prateek Rajendra Srivastava, ‘All Through the Night’ by Indian director Abhishek Bhattacharya, ‘The Strange Case of a Divorce’ by Indian director Debarati Gupta and Another Indian director Ishan Sharma’s ‘Kabootar’, Nepali director Abhimanyu Dixit and Sahara Sharmas’s ‘Ek Muthi Badal’ and Sri Lankan director Bavaneeha Loganathan’s ‘Kuttu’.


After participating in the lab, the participants were able to pitch their screenplay.biz/top-screenplays/" 786 target="_blank">screenplays to potential international collaborators through the programme’s market section titled ‘Film Haat’.

The jury also selected the top three screenplay.biz/top-screenplays/" 786 target="_blank">screenplays. Red Lights Blue Angels received $5,000 as the first prize winner, Kabootor from India received $3000 as the 1st runner-up and Kuttu from Sri Lanka received $ 2000 as the 2nd runner-up.
