Top 10 Ghanaian foods

Ghanaian people love indigenous food. They will try all sorts of variations to generate and produce the spark necessary for utmost delight and taste. Some of the very famous Ghanaian foods include:

10) Tuo Zaafi:

Tuo Zaafi is a staple food of Northern Ghana. This traditional Ghanaian food is prepared with corn flour or millet. Cassava and corn flour are mixed in a bowl and then stirred with water. Zaafi is taken along with vegetable soup and Okra.

9) Suya:

Suya is a traditional Ghanaian appetizer.  This food is grilled meat in short.

8) Kontomire stew:

Spinach or Cocoyam soup is prepared and served along with white meat, spices and curry. Plain rice complements Kontomire very well.

7) Kenkey:

Maize dough is fermented, followed by steaming. The process of steaming the fermented maize dough is coupled with banana leaf wrappings on to the dough.

6) Red Red:

Red palm oil is used to fry black-eyed peas. Peas are cooked in garlic or tomato paste. Red Red is presented along with cassava and fried plantains.

5) Chofi:

Chofi is a traditional Ghanaian street food. Chofi in short means ‘deep fried tails of Turkey’. The food is  presented along with herbs and spices.

4) Bofrot:

Bofrot are fried balls.  Main ingredients includes yeast, water, butter and eggs. Bofrot balls are fried unless turned brownish.

3) Banku:

Fermented corn is amalgamated with cassava dough; salt and water are used to create fluffy dough. Banku is neutral in taste and is served with Okra or spices.

 2) Apapransa:

Cornmeal soup and palm nut are mixed well to create a solid chunk. Cooked crabs and peas are used for garnishing. Usually Kidney beans are used for garnishing.

1) Fufu:

Fufu has to be considered as one of the most popular Ghanaian food.  Fufu is a festival food indeed. Dough is made of cassava and green plantains.  Well preserved dough is served with meat or vegetable curry.
