Colombia: 12 killed in plane crash near Villavicencio

Almost a dozen people lost their lives after a plane crashed due to a technical problem in central Colombia.

President of Colombia Ivan Duque has expressed his deep condolences over the precious loss.

How crashed occurred?

Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority reported that DC-3 aircraft reported a technical problem late on Saturday morning during the journey to the city of Villavicencio from Taraira.

The pilot of the twin-engine plane lost contact to authorities and crashed near Villavicencio. Aviation authorities finally discovered the debris about an hour after air traffic lost contact with the plane. Villavicencio lies at about 120km (75 miles) from Bogotá while Taraira located on Colombia’s border with Brazil.

Earlier, the plane stopped in the town of San José del Guaviare as a result of poor weather. It crashed afterward about 89km (55 miles) of Villavicencio near San Carlos de Guaroa.
