Henry Kerali, the Country Director of the World Bank, has stressed out the need to provide and teach the youth on technology and entrepreneurship to get rid of Poverty in Ghana.

While speaking at the celebration of this year’s Poverty Eradication Day last Wednesday in Accra, Mr Kerali said the celebration was focused on the youth of early stages who are mostly not employed. The international day for the eradication of poverty is personified in Goal 1 of the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable growth. While touching on the rate of poverty in the youth, he said the session was chiefly geared towards preparing young people to seriously think and recognize problems and resolves same while detection their potentials with on hand resources.

Many people participate in celebration, the other speakers for the event were Regina Honu, CEO of Soronko Solutions; Kofi Dadzie, CEO of Rancard; Ashwin Ravichandran, an interactive developer and Joycelyn Mends-Ainoo, an HR professional and associate consultant at L’aine Services Limited. They asked the young people to take on concentrated skills which would go a long way to build their potential and ability and at the end of the day that skill help to earn them a living.

There are so many definite challenges which were recognized among Ghanaian youth which will stay them from getting themselves out of poverty. The challenges to remove poverty are the deficient in proper communication skills, as well as soft skills also required by most employers, lack of access to internet which makes it difficult for most of the young people to get involved in the digital age in Africa.

Christabel Dadzie, the social protection specialist at the World Bank office Ghana, also stated in an interview that as part of efforts to give a hand to government to put into practice the policies in different areas, it was important that Ghana’s educational system adapted to the adaptability of the modern world.
