Three killed in Grand Canyon’s helicopter crash

A tourist aircraft has crashed in Grand Canyon leaving three people dead while four other injured. The helicopter crash occurred in US State of Arizona at around 17:20 local time (00:20 GMT) on Saturday.

The Grand Canyon is considered one of the most Visited Tourist Attractions site in US.

According to a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Authority, the helicopter has substantial damage after it came down in the Grand Canyon area.

Tour Company Papillon Airways operated the helicopter. The reason behind the crash is still now clear. In Papillon Airways website, they claim for “the world’s largest aerial sightseeing company”. The company also called that it flies more than 600,000 people a year.

Police Chief, Francis Bradley, from the surrounding Hualapai Indian reservation reported that the local terrain had troubled the rescue efforts overnight.

A media source said while quoting him: “We are having difficulties getting the four people out of the crash site area to the hospital. It is too windy and it’s dark and the area is very rugged.”

In circulating images, flames and thick smoke are rising from the boulder-strewn crash site. The helicopter was actually an Airbus Eurocopter EC130. It was carrying six passengers and the pilot.

The Grand Canyon is more than 1.6km (one mile) deep. It considered one of the most visited tourist attractions site in the US.
