World Bank supports Ghana for SEIP and SRWSP projects

According to a World Bank statement, it approved 2 International Development Association credits of $ 85.7 million for the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project (SRWSP) and the Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP).

World Bank issued a statement and copied to media, according to that SEIP got additional financing of $ 40 million to support low-performing schools in the 100 SEIP districts as well as the 23 newly constructed schools by providing scholarships for the students in need.

It also improving and increasing facilities in about 75 schools, and rolling out activities to improve the quality of teaching and learning in all beneficiary schools.

Henry Kerali, World Bank Country Director for Ghana said, under the SEIP the anticipated additional financing would provide support to the achievement of better learning outcomes to more than 100 additional schools, almost doubling the number of schools targeted under the SEIP, while continuing to support activities to increase enrolment in undersubscribed schools.

According to the statement, the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project received extra financing of $ 45.7 million that could help facilitate the construction of additional 20,000 household toilets and help additional 490 communities to be open defecation free.

Statement also mentioned the project would also fund water supply systems that could remain incomplete from the original SRWSP.
