On Saturday March 18, 2017 at 21;45 accident happened on the M1 highway between Oxford and Houghton along a passage of road where road was under construction.

Edna Mamonyane metro police spokesperson confirmed the news explaining

We confirm that at 21:45 on M1 North between Oxford and Houghton along a passage of road where road was under construction. An accident happen between a bakkie and a Ford Figo. The left handside of Ford Figo was badly damaged after hitting the Baakkie. Mr. Mafela driver of the Figo was declared very critical dead on the spot. Investigation is underway now.

She further added, Joe Mafela seemingly died from a medical condition as he did not bear apparent injuries during the crash, metro police said on Sunday.

Johannesburg and Metro Police spokeswoman Edna Mamonyane said that injuries were not visible… it looks like it could have been a medical condition.

When medical facility arrived on the scene, Mr Mafela was no more in the world. A post-mortem would now be conducted to determine his cause of death because there were no major injuries seen on the body.

Mafela was an award winning veteran of, television, SA film, threatre and music. He was born in 1942 in Limpopo,.
