Apple Earns FCC Approval for ‘Sleep Monitor’ Product

Apple may be getting all of its ducks in order for a new product coming down the pipe, which may actually be a refreshed version of a product previously available in the market.

If you will recall, Apple recently acquired a company called Beddit, which offered up a platform for sleep tracking. The details on that acquisition were pretty light, with the Beddit iOS app only letting customers know that the company had been acquired, and that the data of customers was now being collected by Apple:

Beddit has been acquired by Apple. Your personal data will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy.

Beddit has a Sleep Monitor product already, but following the acquisition it sounds like Apple is making some changes — even if they are just of the formal kind. The FCC recently approved a new “sleep monitor” product, with the model version being 3.5. Beddit’s sleep monitor product currently on sale is the Sleep Monitor 3, so this may be a product with some changes that require additional regulatory approval before it can launch into the market.

No word on when the new sleep monitor will see the light of day, though. And this is still not a sleep tracking feature baked into the Apple Watch, unfortunately. However, considering that this specific feature is one of the most oft-requested, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before it finally arrives in the wearable.
