Kane and Abel - Book Review

Author: Jeffrey Archer
First Published: 1979

One of the masterpieces from Jeffrey Archer, Kane and Abel is an example of brilliant story telling. The story spans through the entire lifetime of two people – William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski; born on the same day (18 April 1906).
William Kane is born with a silver spoon in his mouth into one of the richest banking families on earth. Abel Rosnovski on the other hand is born to a woman who dies at child birth in the woods and is adopted and brought up in a poor family.

William Kane goes to the best schools and universities in the world while Abel Rosnovski learns about life the hard way. He faces the genocide camps during World War 2 and travels across countries using his hard working spirit to get to the top of the hotel business. William Kane on the other hand has to face his own share of adversities and fights his way through all odds to be at the head of the biggest banking corporation in the world.

The individual stories of both the protagonists are just spelled bounding. But the real excitement and battle of wits of both the characters start when their paths cross each other. The story telling by Jeffrey Archer in this Book is simply that of a genius. There are episodes in this book where the narrative makes you actually feel the pain of the characters even if you are not being able to relate to them. If you are a Jeffrey Archer fan or are planning to start off with reading one of his works, this book will surely not disappoint you.
