Bright Idea: Outdoor Lighting

The warm weather has arrived! The days are longer, the temperature is warmer, and its time to dust off and roll the grill onto the patio . As we move into spring and summertime we bring our entertainment space to the outdoors! From sprucing up the landscape, power-washing the deck to opening the backyard pool, what really sets the tone of your backyard is outdoor lighting. Your backyard lighting enhances the time you spend outdoors with friends and family and keeps the party going even after the sun has set.

Here are a few ideas on how to light up the night this summer

Deck and Patio Lighting

Deck and patio lighting is what brings your space to life at night. Not only can it create ambiance during
your romantic evening dinner, but it's also great for safety purposes! Lighting in this area is especially helpful when installed in stairs, doorways, walking paths and handrails. You want these lighting positions to act as a guide for your guests and to highlight the beauty of your space. This type of accent lighting makes your backyard inviting!

Pool Lighting

What better way to enhance the mood than with lighting dancing off the bottom of the pool and the space around it. This lighting allows you to enjoy that night time swim and also extend the hours of enjoyment in and out of the water. In my opinion, lighting in this space draws people outside and completes the whole magical look to your backyard with its glowing effect. Pool lighting is a must if you want to get the most out of your pool and the space around it.

String Lights

String lights are a huge trend right now for both indoor and outdoors. What I love about these accent lights is that they're simple to hang up, you can rearrange them however or whenever you want, and it really ties your space together. It's especially nice when you're having dinner looking up at the twinkly lights in the sky. You can use them to wrap around the trees or spread them out above the deck for a simple and tasteful addition to your backyard.

Fire Pits

Don't have an outlet? No problem! Nothing says summertime like roasting marshmallows or hot dogs over an open flame.  A fire pit makes a great centerpiece for your seating area and friends tend to linger longer while chatting around the fire. Portable fire pits can burn wood or gas and are typically the size of a coffee table. With this option, you can choose the style that best fits your decor and move it easily when rearranging outdoor furniture.

Next time you're in your backyard take a minute to look around to see where you can add these accent lights to get your backyard ready for the first barbecue of the season!
