Q: We recently saw the announcement that you are planning to put your first live concert, James Zero (& the Heroes): LIVE, on streaming platforms. What made you want to do a live concert in the first place?

A: The impact that COVID-19 had on the music industry for large and small artists was really interesting, and I was really inspired by all of the artists who were putting on live concerts – These live-streamed events that are bigger and more theatrical than normal musical live-streams. As a solo artist, I’ve never been much of a live performer, but this was the sort of space that I could get comfortable with. I got in touch with some of the best musicians that I know to make that happen and I was so proud of it.

Q: Which artists specifically inspired you to do these live shows?

A: A huge inspiration was Brockhampton’s “Live from the Chapel” live concert. It was a really well done thing, cinematically and musically. I was specifically a big fan of bearface’s cover of “You’ve Got a Friend”.

Q: There was a large cinematic element to your live show to make it run smoothly. Who helped you most with that?

A: The video feed was controlled by one of my very good friends, Astley Martin. He goes by A. B. Martin and runs a really cool podcast called theamenpodcast. He was by far the most instrumental to bringing the video to life, because as of right now, I’m not very good at video. He’s an amazing artist and a really good friend of mine. I don’t think I could control those aspects while also performing as well (haha).

Q: What do you do now? What is the next project that you’re working on?

A: I’ve been working on another side project of mine called “The Legend of Devn”. I have an entire hard drive filled with songs that were made by one of my good friends before he passed away, and I’d really like to release a lot of those songs this year. I’m still working on different cool things with James Zero, going back to the drawing board and getting inspiration from some of my older creations. I have so many ideas – it’s too early to say now.

Q: Can you tell us anything about the future for your live shows?

A: I’ve definitely been really interested in putting on another live show really soon! I’d like to perform some more songs from my new album, (“Oceans (& Other Bodies of Water)”), that I didn’t get a chance to perform before. There are also a few songs that I’d like to do a cover of. The holiday season really put me in the mood for it, but it’s definitely something I want to work on next and get out as soon as I can, and possibly turn into a live concert series.

Q: What is your message to your fans?

A: My message is thank you for sticking with me and holding me down in 2021 while the new album came out. We accomplished so much with this rollout and I had so much fun during the whole thing. Thank you guys, you are my love and my light.
