Full Form of IIT is Indian Institute of Technology, and they are India’s most prestigious autonomous college with 23 branches spread across India. History of IIT

Jogendra Singh was a previous viceroy’s executive council member before India’s independence in 1946. He established a committee whose purpose was to construct higher technical schools in India by training students.

Later, 22 people were on this committee. The committee’s chairman, Nalini Ranjan Sarkar, has suggested that these institutions be in India. It was in the Hijli prison camp in Kharagpur in May 1950. The first IIT was in 1951, and the Indian parliament ratified the IIT act on September 15, 1956. The first agenda was in 1956 in Kharagpur with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, which resulted in the establishment of four IITs in India: Delhi in 1961, Kanpur in 1959, Bombay in 1958, and Madras in 1959.

Due to regional imbalances and the admission of new IIT students from Assam, prime minister Rajiv Gandhi promised the establishment of a new IIT in Assam. As a result, in 1960, a new IIT was in Guwahati, Assam. There have been new establishments and renovations to it over the years. In addition, there are presently 23 campuses. There have also been plans to open IITs outside of India, but nothing has come of this.

How to Get Admission to IIT?

As mentioned before, the Indian Institute of Technology organizes an entrance examination called JEE (Joint Entrance Examination), earlier known as AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination), which students of 12th standard are to write. The preparation for these exams usually starts from the 11th as the syllabus of the exam comprises the topics of 11th and 12th (CBSE or State) math, physics, and chemistry. It is necessary to have a minimum of 75% in your 12th board, having maths, physics, and chemistry as your core subjects to qualify for JEE.

The entrance examination is four times a year, and the best out of 4 (in case you write all four times) is to be your result. The exam is in 2 phases, the first being JEE-MAINS, in which you must secure at least 90 percentile only after which you can give the JEE-ADVANCED. You must qualify for both exams to get an All-India Rank. Depending on your rank, You will give the option of selecting an IIT you can qualify to get in along with the course.
