"The Island" (2011): Detachment from the Mainland and the Land of The Cogent
So "The Island". Heeeere we go. Deep breath...the kid will now give it his best shot...
A young Parisian couple go on vacation. The workaholic guy, disillusioned with a life others have fashioned as ideal, balks at first. But, alas, the free-spirited lass coaxes him into the trip. And, boy, what a total trip it shall be. They wind up at an island resort off the coast of Bulgaria. Things seem to be going swimmingly (including making whoopee in the waves). Ah, but not so fast, my friend. Soon the guy, abandoned as a child, begins to believe that his mom is occupying the adjacent room. Next he's detecting dead dudes in stormy waters along with other vile visions. Dreams? Hmmm. Could be. One thing we come to find not conjured is the gent's girlfriend is with child. His kid. He then counter informs her that we have officially arrived at splitsville. She leaves, devastated. He stays delirious. More super strange stuff goes down. Eventually he returns to his Bulgarian hometown of Sofia. Here he literally walks in off the street and becomes a houseguest on the county's version of the TV reality show "Big Brother". Okay, now I'm making stuff up, right?. You would think. But nope, it only seems that way.
At this point, rather than spill the spoiler beans, may I be so bold as to suggest you partake in this bizarro banquet yourself? If you can find it, that is. (I discovered the flick on filmdoo.com).
Then you decide if I'm on my own island when I offer that this whole convoluted chronicle is just flat-out steeped in batshit crazy.
