"Train to Busan" (2016): Zombie Flick as
Domestic Drama
The South Korean dramatic thriller "Train to Busan" is zombie horror with a heart. The undead don't have hearts. The flick sure as shit does.
To me Director and co-writer Sang-ho Yeon is presenting two primary subtexts here:
1) Don't worry, troubled citizens. Your government has got this thing under control. Always do exactly what we tell you to do and everything will be just fine.
Sound familiar, fellow free Americans who haven't been rendered weak and witless by the paralyzing politics of fear?
Yeah.
2) An extra minute to work? Or an extra minute to be with loved ones?
To most of us, the choice is a no-brainer. Lamentably, not to all.
May we, together and forever, journey with passengers riding a train full of the former.
