"Primer" (2004): Who the Wut?!
"Primer" wouldn't have worked near as well as it does if Carruth had not succeeded masterfully in creating an incessant sense of vital urgency. The stable of no-name actors do a uniformly exceptional job conveying an intense immediacy. The sound and music mesh most effectively to establish and maintain an ominous tone of impending dread throughout this ultra-weird ride. We are constantly engaged in what we are watching.
At least once during the frenetic proceedings, you will ask yourself, "WTF just happened there?" And you will realize that only the two characters on screen have the answer.
Ultimately "Primer" is a treatise on your wildest dream coming to pass. Even if that dream turns out to be a ghastly nightmare.
I can't estimate how many of you will not like this movie. But I can tell you that some of you, like me, are gonna dig the hell out of it. Either way, in the end, you'll almost assuredly be left asking yourself:
"Who is who?"
