National Technology Day

National Technology Day is a very special day in the history of India since 1999. On this day, India achieved a huge technological advancement. The first indigenous aircraft ‘Hansa-3’ was test flown at Bangalore on this day. Also, the country performed successful test firing of the Trishul Missile on this same day. India also executed three successful Nuclear Tests, carried out at Pokhran, in Rajasthan May 11.

Pokhran II was the series of five nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by India at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range in May 1998. It was the second Indian nuclear test; the first test, code-named Smiling Buddha, was conducted in May 1974. It consisted of five detonations of which the first was a fusion bomb and the remaining four were fission bombs. These nuclear tests resulted in a variety of sanctions against India by a number of major states, including Japan and the United States.

On 11 May, 1998 Operation Shakti (Pokhran-II) was commenced with the detonation of one fusion and two fission bombs.

11th May has been officially declared as National Technology Day by the Indian Government. This day is celebrated to hounour the first of the five Nuclear Tests that were carried out o this day.
