Around 213 junior basic teachers of city government after resigning under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan moved to Haryana to join regular services. The Chandigarh education department is planning to start a recruitment drive to recruit 100 regular teachers. Also, the UT department has demanded nearly 300 teachers from the government for the next six years.

Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan a total number of 300 JBT teachers will be resigning and will join their parent state Haryana for regular jobs. Due to this there will be shortage of 400 teachers in government school across the city. The department is beginning the hiring process in June.




The department is planning a temporary arrangement for the problem till they recruit teachers. They have asked the State Council for Educational Research & Training, Government College of Education, Dev Samaj College Sector 45, B.Ed Colleges for trainee teachers. It would be a great opportunity for the B.ED students as they will get some experience during this period.

The director of the School Education, Mr. Rubinderjit Singh Brar revealed that around 300 B.ED students will be taking up classes. The Sarva Siksha Abhiyan welfare Association has taken up this responsibility for arranging the teachers. But the teacher’s body has stated that no posts should be advertised till the creation of 1375 posts of JBT and TGT teachers by government of India.




The president of educational employees union, Swan Singh Kamboj shared that more than 450 teachers are working o deputation in Chandigarh and have overstayed. They have been working on deputation for more than 15 years but the department is not ready to send them back to their state.

The Haryana government gave regular jobs to the teachers on deputation in their nearby districts in the previous month. After this many temporary teachers resigned instantly. Six teachers have resigned from the Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) in Sector 10-A, while three teachers quit from the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Maloya.
