King of the Carnival

The movie serial was sort of like a t.v. show that you had to go to the theater to see.  It used to be that your movie ticket would get you a newsreel, a couple of shorts, a serial, and a main feature.  The serial episodes would end on a cliffhanger to make you want to come back next week to see what happened.  Republic studios was known for their serials, which they made from 1936 to 1955.  Their last serial was King of the Carnival, which involved a federal agent getting the help of a couple of circus performers to stop a counterfeiting ring. Even though Republic reissued their older serials until 1958, this one marked the end of an era.
