Creative Canvas for Your Indie Art Business

Here is yet another tutorial compilation by My-Picture.co.uk, this time featuring a selection of inspiring YouTube.com videos for your next Creative Canvas project! Full of DIY ingenuity and creative detours around seemingly complex handicraft stuff, these tutorials are sure to make you run for the nearest stationery shop to acquire the necessary equipment! Regardless of the result, it will surely be an interesting ride!

Finnabair

Before we get into this one, we must introduce you to the figure behind the peculiar aesthetic. Anna Dabrowska, better known by her alias Finnabair, is the unsung (sort of) hero of the DIY world. Creating primarily collages consisting of different recycled elements (journal pages, photo cut-outs, etc.), she has inspired a considerable cult following that constantly improves on the seemingly limitless mixed-media formula provided by Finnabair. While it might be a bit messy and certainly begs for a lot of additional elements, the results are quite fascinating!

Mixed-Media Creative Canvas

This one can be regarded as a spiritual sibling of Finnabair’s technique, albeit without any of the baroque-esque features (cut-out based canvas projects seem to be really popular). Once again, a lot of creative freedom, a lot of mod podge (to avoid paper peeling off), and textures, patterns, complementary hues, and stamping. Enjoy!

Pressed Flowers

Be warned, Søstrene Grene’s DIY videos are a thing of addictive nature. Beautifully presented and offering simple yet stunningly creative solutions for whatever style of decor you can imagine, these tutorials are the kind of celebration of a slow lifestyle and muted tones one could expect from our Kinfolk engaged generation. This one features a couple of pressed flowers and the refreshing use of a simple envelope. A pleasure to watch!

Quick and Quirky

The following tutorial features a quick peek behind the creation of three small-format canvases, each of them a genuinely simple and eye-catching decor featurette! A couple of colours, a bit of glitter, a stencil, and simple, pretty straightforward geometrical cut-outs and you have it. Pick whichever motivating phrase you can think of, and better arm yourself with brushes of different sizes. Some colouring parts can be quite niggling.

Complete Simplicity

This video tutorial pretty much sums up the joy of operating with ready-made materials and simple visual motives that somehow look spectacular once contained within the frame of a canvas. Just a regular white sheet, black paint, brush, and you already have the first canvas art featured in this video. Turning the creative process into a joyous affair, that’s how it’s done.

Experimenting with LED

Can LED lights combined with a super tasteful monochrome canvas art make an epic wall decor? See for yourselves. A masterstroke tutorial considering the minimal investment these lights require and the genuinely awesome results they provide, the video also opens completely new ground for wall art experimentation regarding the utilization of string lights! What you’ll need is a bit of confetti, acrylic paint, washi tape and… mod podge. Change the colours according to your mood, for the layouts and patterns seen in the video can be interpreted really universally.

Tumblr-Inspired

Tumblr has been dictating the general trajectory of mainstream aesthetics for a couple of years now, so it’s no wonder that a popular trend strives to replicate the look on the surface of a canvas art. Daily encouragement in the form of an ombre quote on a beautifully blended background is just what your room needs. The only recommendation – use a sponge brush for better colour blending!

Embracing Summer 2017

Okay, summer is still a couple of months away, yet is there a better way to embrace a season than by creating a wall tribute to it? Stepping into this role is 3D beach canvas decor, complete with sea stars, beautiful seashells and the warmth of actual beach sand. Note that this will require some expertise (primary level) with modeling clay. The results, however, are absolutely gorgeous.

 Tasteful Embroidery

Here is another one from Søstrene, for this DIY virtuoso surely knows what’s good. This time, it’s all about decorating minimalism and sewing together beautifully chilly hues of yarn. Embroidery is a chic thing when presented in the right light!

 The Most Minimal

The last one is all about a minimalistic abstraction that once again strikes with its straightforwardness and rejection of any additional elements (such as vignettes). The amount of effort and utilities this particular project requires is so astonishingly small, it might actually be the best place to start! Simple, impressionistic brush strokes become an ethereal landscape of crops, while a stripped-down, subtle calligraphy totally works as the only element in the middle of a large scale canvas.

Be it a simple creative meditation for a Sunday afternoon or the beginnings of a successful indie art business, to try these out definitely wouldn’t be time spent without purpose. The results should not stay only on the surface of a canvas! Create your own collection of artworks compiled in a beautiful portfolio of a high-quality photo book, which in turn can be used as a book of inspiration and a personal gift solution
